Prep Time: 15 minutesmins
Ingredients
Donuts
1can of refrigerated biscuit dough or homemade biscuit doughbelow
1 to 1-1/2cupsoil for frying-I had corn oil on hand but vegetable oil is fine too
1cupconfectioner's sugar-for sprinkling on topand for making the icing
1-2tbspmilk
Food coloring in your color choice
Sprinkles
Homemade dough
2cupsflour-I used White Lily brand of self rising flour
1tspsugar
1/4cupbutterchilled-I used salted butter
2/3 to 3/4cupsbuttermilkor regular milk is fine
Instructions
Add the flour to a medium bowl, grate or cut in the chilled butter. I use a cheese grater instead of cutting in. Then add enough buttermilk to make the dough come together. Roll the dough out on a floured surface, and cut with a biscuit cutter for round donuts, or use cookie cutters for fun shapes. We used 2 sizes of heart cookie cutters. Don't throw away the centers!
Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. You'll need the oil to be about a half inch deep.
Add your donuts to the skillet and cook around 1-2 minutes on each side or until lightly golden.
Remove donuts to cooling racks and sift confectioner's sugar over the top. You can stop here if you don't care for icing (who am I kidding?) Go for the icing.
While your donuts are cooling, prepare the icing. You'll need confectioner's sugar and milk, and the food coloring if you like.
Add the sugar to a bowl, and mix in the milk until the icing is the consistency to pipe. If you're using food coloring, go ahead and mix it in to your desired shade.
Put your icing in a bag and decorate these cuties! I used a small zip bag and round tip to pipe my icing. If you don't have tips, just snip off the end of the bag and go! Add your sprinkles and boom, you're done!
